No Evidence of syncronization.

I have an FTP sync task. I want it to copy the entire contents of the drive to the FTP site to start with. What I am getting is the following:

Its starts with
"Scanning"
It sits on scanning for a long time, then it change status to
"Detecting 0/835,535"
Again Sits for a long time.
It then changes to a percentage number of
0.00%....
This does not appear to change...e.g. its staying at 0.00%

I cannot view log under "Action(s)" ....e.g. it is grey out.
I can view log under options....which only has a few lines of successful.

1) How can I view evidence that is is syncronizing?
2) Is it stuck?
3) How do I diagnose what is going on here.
