Hi
I am using BestSync 7.3.1.0 x64 on Windows 7 x64. As of today, version info shows I have the Ultimate license.
I am having problems getting the "send log data by email" function to work.
I have tried setting up the email (under "preferences") for various different email accounts that I have (I've tried Gmail, Earthlink, and my work account). In ALL cases, after setting things up, the "test" works perfectly - the BestSync Test window shows that the email has been sent, and soon afterwards the email arrives at its destination.
So, after configuring the email as above, I then go into a BestSync task. I go to the Log tab, check "Send log data by email" but I leave "Send email only when there are failed files" UNchecked. I enter a Subject line, and the destination email address (to which I can send using the "Test" function, as described above). That should send an email whenever the task is run / completed, right?
So now I run the task. It seems to run fine (in that all the correct files are backed up), but after the progress bar shows as complete, the task then spends quite a while (maybe 30 seconds or more) showing "Logging", during which time the task is still displayed in the "Running" tab. Eventually, the task shows as completed (and vanishes from the Running tab). But no email ever arrives.
If I modify the task & turn OFF the "Send email", then the task no longer shows prolonged "Logging" - it runs, then quickly shows as "completed". So I think the prolonged "Logging" reflects BestSync trying, but failing, to send the email.
I have tried v7.3.3.0 x64 (Ultimate) on a different Win7 x64 machine - same outcome. Test works, the real thing does not.
Can you advise what I might be doing wrong, to have all three email accounts work for "Test" but not for an actual task? Thanks.
Email "Test" works; but logs not sent
Re: Email "Test" works; but logs not sent
I've had the same problem ever since I began using BestSyc in August of 2012 (email test works but actual emailing of the log fails).
I'm curious, ScotProf, in your email setup under the general options:
1) Are you using SSL with a non-standard port (i.e. 445)?
2) Are you using SMTP authentication with a username and password?
I'm using these options (sort of non-standard options?) and I've wondered if it may be causing the failure of BestSync to actually email the logs. But, I haven't taken the time to turn off these features and retest.

Please click "Option"/"View Log File" to show the log data.
There are detailed log data when BestSync sent the email. Please confirm if there is any error when BestSync sent the email.
If the task is set to run as Windows Service, please add BestSyncSvc.exe to the allowed list of the anti-spam email software.

I just installed 7.3.3.0, and ran the task. None of my tasks are set to run as a service.
Again, it backed up the files correctly, but then spent a long time "logging", and no email reached the destination address. Here is the relevant info from the log file:
APP:2013/01/03-08:34:02,Start task:C:\ ==> E:\Backups beginning Sept 2011\

After running the above, I went back into the Options / Email and (without making any changes) clicked "test", and the email was sent immediately and was received, within a couple of seconds, at the destination address.

Hi Jeff
I saw your thread, from back in November, but because there was no follow-up I assumed that your problem was solved. Hence, rather than posting there, I opened a new one.
I have tried several accounts, and various setups (both with & without SSL; and with various different authentication methods). But the key issue that we are both having is that we are getting the "Test" emails to send just fine; but the "real" emails (to the same destination address) are not being received (and, from my log today, that's because they are not going out....).

Re: Email "Test" works; but logs not sent
Hello,
From the log data, it seems that the SMTP server does not response.
Have you tried to stop the anti-virus software and firewall when test?

Re: Email "Test" works; but logs not sent
Sorry, I do not understand this. I already told you that when I test it, it works perfectly.

Follow up - in case, by "test", you meant the "real" email (the one that is NOT being sent) I turned off the only security software on my PC (Windows firewall, and Microsoft Security Essentials), then ran a task which is set to send an email whenever the task is started. Jean-Pierre,
I ran a sync task that had some failures and should have emailed the log. Here is the resulting log that you suggested we look at:

Why is the BestSync test email working properly while the BestSync task is unable to send an email?

Re: Email "Test" works; but logs not sent
"winsock:Receive::Error.:error:(0x00002746):An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host." means some software blocked BestSync from sending email. Please stop the firewall and anti-spam software for a while When you test the sync-task to see if the email can be sent.
Re: Email "Test" works; but logs not sent
Jean-Pierre,
Why does the BestSync test email works yet any email generated by a BestSync task fails?
My firewall already has a rule programmed to allow BestSyncApp.exe to send out any TCP or UDP communications on any port out to any IP address. BestSyncApp.exe has full outgoing access through my firewall.
Should I add any other executable / app to my firewall rule so that emails generated by a BestSync task won't fail?
FYI, my firewall is configured so that if any unknown communication is attempted through the firewall, a firewall notice pops up and allows the user to either allow or block the communication, and create a temporary or permanent firewall rule. I'm not seeing any firewall notification when the BestSync task email fails.
Again, how can it be explained that the BestSync test email works yet any email generated by a BestSync task fails?
