I'm running BS 2008 on 2003 server and syncing to XP over the network. If I try to sync a local folder VSS starts and works fine. If I try to sync a remote folder on the XP computer, VSS does not start- the backup starts immediately and my database program crashes because the mdb file is locked. I have added domain admin logins to the share and the service.
Thanks,
Davey
VSS doesn't work over network
Re: VSS doesn't work over network
If the database file is on the shared folder of the remote Windows XP, you can not use the VSS to backup a crash free database. The is limited by the VSS function itself.
Instead, you shoud run BestSync on the Windows XP, and use VSS to backup the database file to the Windows 2008 server.

Re: VSS doesn't work over network
Thanks for the info. The problem with that solution is that there are 8~10 XP machines that need to be backed up to one 2003 server, so that would require 8~10 BestSync installs.

Yes, for using the VSS feature, you need to install BestSync on each computer.
