Can it be that this is actually not possible?

Because then that would, unfortunately, disqualify Bestsync for me. I believe it is an indispensable feature to be able to take a quick look into a file to be synced.

If the file can be opened by a local tools (application), in the Preview, you can use the "Explorer Folder X" context menu to open the file.
